9 Phl provinces, placed under signal no. 1 due to ‘first typhoon’ in 2014


MANILA, Philippines- Nine provinces in Southern part of the Philippines are experiencing heavy rains due to tropical depression Agaton.


Pagasa raised storm signal number one in Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte, Siargao Islands, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Province, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental and Compostella Valley.

As of 4pm, the weather bureau spotted Agaton 165 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or about 190 kilometers east of Surigao City carrying maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center.

Said weather disturbance is expected to landfall in Caraga Region on Saturday if it maintains its speed and movement.

Meanwhile, Butuan City is now experiencing flash flood causing dozens of family to evacuate from their residences.

Agusan del Norte local officials are conducting relief operations to affected individuals. About 21,000 residents are affected by the flood.

Tropical depression Agaton is the first typhoon that hit the country this year.
